The History of Zoneball

The very first Zoneball table was built in North London in 1994.

The original idea was to develop a new kind of Billiard game, which moved away from the usual predictable format.

The concept has evolved into a game that contains an exciting mixture of strategy, skill and enjoyment.

Zoneball was first shown to the public at the Inventors and Inventions fair at the Barbican Centre, London during September 1998.

During the four days, Zoneball was played constantly by over 250 members of the visiting public, as well as the occasional celebrity.

Zoneball was featured on both Cable and National TV during the four days of the exhibition. Many Visitors actually stated that it was the showing of Zoneball on the television that attracted them to attend the Exhibition !

Zoneball was invited to the Liverpool Victoria UK Professional Snooker Championships, which was held in Bournemouth during November 1998.

The Game was played by hundreds of people spanning all ages, and both sexes.

The reaction on how the game would be received was monitored by the WPBSA (World Professional Billiard & Snooker Association).

What was already known became obvious to the WPBSA, that Zoneball was a hit. Snooker fans returned again and again to play. Well known Snooker referees also played Zoneball, and acknowledged that it is a great game to play.

Overall, the event was judged to have been a complete success. Just about every person who sampled Zoneball simply loved it.

Zoneball generated so much interest with the Snooker fans, the BBC (with the help of former world Snooker champion John Parrott) featured the game during the coverage of the championship.

The four years of time, effort and development have been worthwhile.
